We are delighted to welcome to the gallery the incredibly talented young sculptor from Cork:
Patrick Barry.
Using mainly but not exclusively
Kilkenny Limestone, Patrick is equally comfortable with the abstract and the figurative. We recently received 3 pieces of his exquisite work, and here is one of them...
"The Sea Inside" - Kilkenny Limestone
"Patrick Barry was awarded the prestigious Douglas Hyde Gold Medal, Oct 2008, for his work as part of the Oireachtas festival. The award winning sculpture entitled ‘Tonn an Mhean Oiche’ (Midnight Wave) was based on sculpture mirroring the ocean as a conduit for energy. Judges for the competition included the renowned sculpture Imogen Stuart (Carved the Altar at BUCK, Cork& John Paul II in NUI, Maynooth) and also Maria Simmons-Gooding who has been identified as one of Irelands foremost painters and printmakers to have emerged since the 1960’s.
To date Patrick has been awarded numerous public and private commissions some of which include Flora fountain, a water feature based on wild flowers along the Blackwater River for Blackwater Motors, Fermoy, Circle of Friends a department of education commission for St. Marys National School, Carrigaline and Two Sides to Youth for Limerick County Council. Recently his public commissions include a figurative stone carving commission for Waterford County Council, entitled – The Daily Balance – a Kilkenny limestone carving representing the previous days of the co-op where a shopping plaza now stands in Dungarvan. He has also recently completed commissions for Enable Ireland Tralee, a commemorative seat for oysterhaven beach Kinsale, Co Cork."
