Born in Dublin in 1944, Norman Teeling graduated from the National College of Art and Design in the early 60’s. While there he learned to create canvases using the traditional method which involves sketching up to 50 studies in pencil and preparing mixed media studies before finalising fully conceived canvases in both acrylic and oil mediums.

Norman is considered to be one of Ireland’s most innovative and interesting Artists. There is a softness and romantic feel throughout his work. He achieves the painterly style of the French Impressionists and the strength of composition awarded to the Dutch. Norman’s paintings vibrate with energy due to the combination of strength of his style, technique and content.

Since his Dublin debut in 1975, Norman has captured the attention of many art collectors and Galleries alike. Among his extensive list of followers are: Charles J Haughey, An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, actor Patrick Bergan, Nobel Peace Prize-winner. Sir John Hume

Norman is an accomplished illustrator, having produced background paintings for the Film’s, All Dogs go to Heaven II and The Pebble and the Penguin for Don Bluth Studio’s. He also produced work for Fred Wolfe Films.

For six years Norman was commissioned by the Irish Press to produce the Millennicus cartoon strip. He has also completed set designs for the Gate and Tivoli Theatres and he has published two books of cartoons.

In the spring of 1998 an exhibition was opened in the General Post Office, Dublin, displaying ten large oil paintings by Norman. These paintings depict the events of the Easter Rising in 1916. Norman spent two years in the research, planning and development of this collection. He believes that no other artist has attempted to illustrate the events of Easter Week 1916. This exhibition is on permanent view at the General Post Office.

Painting of the Week: "Dassia, Corfu", by Patrick Leonard HRHA

"Dassia, Corfu" by Patrick Leonard HRHA
For purchase within the European Union: €4400
For purchase outside the European Union: €3900
You can see this painting and more by the artist right here

Born in Rush, Co. Dublin, Patrick Leonard studied under Seán Keating and Maurice MacGonigal (q.v.) at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin. He exhibited at the RHA from 1941 onward, and was elected an Honorary Member in 1983.

James Gorry from The Gorry Gallery, Dublin wrote "The integrity of Leonard's approach is such that a peaceful landscape will accommodate a car or 'plane if it passes at the time he is sketching, and colours considered too vibrant by others, but very real in his perception, are never constrained - this freedom of spirit is a hallmark of his work".
Patrick worked with oils, pastels, and drawing. Many of his works are in permanent collections across Ireland, and also in the John Burns Collection in the U.S.A.
He received numerous prizes for paintings as a student and many Awards for portrait and landscape work in watercolour, drawing and black and white illustration from the RDS.

Painting of the Week... "Ophelia" by Ken Hamilton

"Ophelia" by Ken Hamilton
For purchase within the European Union  €1800
For purchase outside the European Union  €1600
To see this painting and more by Ken Hamilton
please visit our website

Ken Hamilton was born and brought up in Nigeria, West Africa and it was here that at first hand he was exposed to the powerful force and form of African Art. His first drawings were encouraged by an Ibo tribal craftsman. Unlike the many European Artists of the 20th century, such as Modigliani, who were influenced by African sculpture, which had been exported from its native land, for Ken the influence was all around.
Ken has spent a considerable amount of time researching the techniques, mediums and pigments of the old masters which can be clearly seen in the gold grounds of some of the paintings exhibited here; harping back to the great Siennese artists of the 15th century and yet purely modern in tone, as Ken himself says 'I want my paintings to be contemporary and also timeless; realistic yet representing an unreal world; almost touchable but totally beyond our reach; as plain as day but still mysterious.'

Painting of the Week... "The Gift" by Joanne Taylor

The Gift by Joanne Taylor
For purchase within the Europena Union: €2250
For purchase outside the European Union: €2000
You can view all available paintings by Joanne Taylor here

"My earliest memories are of violent thunderstorms, giant insects, blue-headed lizards and steam trains hissing in the night above the rhythmic beating of wooden drums.

I was born in the middle of Africa, then northern Rhodesia, during "suicide month" in 1952. I grew up steeped in the overpowering vitality of the jungle, free as a monkey and virtually untouched by the physical and psychological worlds beyond the village limits.

My art, like any creative activity, is simply a reflection of process. I watch, bemused, as this mind plays its games. Essentially I see life as a joyful cosmic joke in which we unwittingly create our own limiting rules. Painting is for me a way of expressing a smile, a reminder not to take my 'self' too seriously."

Guiding Ladies by Ciaran Clear -
For purchase within the European Union: €6500
For purchase outside the European Union: €5800
You can view it on our website here!

Ciaran Clear was best known for his moonlight seascapes and Connemara coastal scenes of the west of Ireland. Over the years he developed a very particular style of painting the night sky . Shimmering silver cloud formations lit by a hidden moon over rural landscapes were typical of his work. Some of these paintings also contained women with lanterns looking out over the sea waiting for the return of their fishermen.

He was a founder member of the "Fingal Artists Group" (1963) which included Maurice Mac Gonigle (former President of the RHA), Fergus O'Ryan, Bea Orpen, Patrick Leonard and Tom Nisbet. The purpose of the group was to make art more accessible to the community by holding exhibitions throughout Leinster.

Over the years Ciaran exhibited with the Dublin Sketching Club, the Living Art, RHA and Oireachtas exhibitions. He was constantly involved in group exhibitions including one which brought the works of Irish artists to New York and Boston.
Ciaran painted to the last days of his life. His work was then and still is in great demand.
